This day originated from an initiative launched by the Council of Europe in 2006. It formally designated 28 January as Data Protection Day. The European Data Protection Day, also known as “Privacy Day”, was first observed on 28 January 2007. It aims to raise awareness among citizens in Europe and around the world about the importance of protecting personal information and respecting every individual’s right to privacy.

Data Protection: the Strategic Foundation of Digital Trust in Payments and Identity

On the occasion of European and International Data Protection Day, one reality stands out for technology leaders and decision-makers: personal data protection is no longer a purely regulatory concern. It has become a strategic pillar for trust, competitiveness and digital sovereignty.

As cyber threats intensify and digital use cases expand, the payments and digital identity sectors sit at the very core of this transformation. Every transaction and every authentication process depend on a delicate balance between security, user experience and privacy.

This is precisely where TRUSTECH positions itself, as the leading international event dedicated to innovative payments and identification solutions.

From Compliance to Strategic Maturity

Since the implementation of the GDPR, the status of personal data management has deeply evolved. What was once a legal or technical matter has become a board-level issue, closely monitored by regulators, partners, investors and end users alike.

In an era where trust can be eroded overnight, organisations able to demonstrate a transparent, responsible and privacy-centric approach to data gain a decisive advantage. Beyond compliance, the most advanced players now embed privacy by design into their products and services.

Digital Identity: Sovereignty, Biometrics and Trust

Digital identity technologies are central to the digital transformation of both public and private services. While they enable secure access and fraud prevention, they also raise critical questions regarding the handling of sensitive data, particularly biometric information.

The challenge for governments and enterprises is twofold: deploying robust authentication systems while maintaining user trust through proportional data use, transparency and regulatory compliance. The long-term success of digital identity solutions now depends as much on privacy protection as on technological performance.

Payments: When Data Security Drives Performance

In the payments ecosystem, personal data fuels innovation while representing a critical risk surface. KYC, AML, fraud prevention and seamless user journeys all rely on advanced data processing, without compromising confidentiality.

Payment leaders must therefore reconcile speed, convenience and strong security. In this environment, data protection has become a clear differentiator, directly influencing trust across the entire value chain.

TRUSTECH: Shaping the Future of Trusted Digital Ecosystems

Each year, TRUSTECH brings together decision-makers, innovators and strategic buyers to explore the transformations reshaping payments and digital identity. Over three intensive business days, participants gain high-level insights into regulatory shifts, technological innovation and market dynamics.

International exhibitors, sponsors and startups showcase their solutions both on the exhibition floor and during live pitch sessions on the Innovation Stage, located at the heart of the event.

TRUSTECH also features a high-level conference programme, where industry experts and thought leaders share their insights and perspectives on the key challenges shaping payments and digital identity.

As data protection increasingly defines trust and growth, TRUSTECH stands out as a key platform to anticipate challenges, benchmark strategies and identify future partners.

A Strategic Meeting Point for Decision-Makers

For CEOs, executive teams and senior buyers, TRUSTECH represents a key forum for understanding how data, identity and secure payments will shape the digital economy.

In a data-driven world, trust is the ultimate currency.

TRUSTECH is the place where trust takes shape.
