By the end of 2026, European Union Member States will be required to offer their citizens a digital identity wallet. As European networks seek to connect their payment solutions and AI plays a role even in online ordering, how can we verify an identity, authorise a transaction and retain control over it? From 1 to 3 December 2026, TRUSTECH, the global event for payment and identification technologies, will bring together experts and professionals at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles to examine practical responses to these changes.

Digital Identity: Crossing Borders, Preserving Sovereignty

Provided for under the revised eIDAS Regulation, this wallet will enable users to prove their identity and present digital documents to access both public and private services throughout the EU. Its use will remain optional for citizens. However, a second deadline is approaching for the private service providers concerned, particularly in the payments sector: by the end of 2027, they will be required to accept these wallets at the user’s request whenever strong authentication is required.

It is against this backdrop that the conferences and live demonstrations on 2 and 3 December will explore the uses of digital wallets and mobile identity, from access to public services to payments and microcredit. They will also examine how to ensure cross-border and cross-provider recognition of identities, whilst preserving states’ control over infrastructure, data and technological choices.

When Payments are Automated, who Retains Control?

Delegating a purchase to AI raises a key question: how do we retain control over the payment? In its report published last September, the Observatory for the Security of Payment announced that its work for 2026–2027 will examine the security challenges of agentic commerce, in conjunction with new authentication techniques. This issue of control extends beyond consumer purchases: in businesses too, automation is transforming treasury decisions and payments.

On 2 December, the roundtable discussion moderated by Stéphanie MARTIN, co-founder of The Circle – Femmes du paiement, will examine this shift from human control towards systems whose decisions are becoming faster, but also less explainable. The panel will feature Lydie CONVERT, Head of Cash Management at BlaBlaCar; Nikki FLORY, Director of International Accounts – Integrated Payments at Visa; and Capucine DELVAL, Director of International Accounts, Enterprise Platforms and AI Transformation at Shopify.

Agentic commerce will also be the subject of a roundtable discussion focusing on how far it has developed across different markets, the barriers to its development and how merchants are preparing for it, featuring representatives from Stripe, BNP Paribas and AFTE. At the same time, a session on identity security will broaden the discussion to include autonomous agents, featuring Tony POOLE, Chair of the Document Security Alliance, and Joachim CAILLOSSE, Chair of the Document Security Working Group at the Security Identity Alliance.

Clément DOMINGO Puts Digital Trust to the Test with AI

Deepfakes, voice cloning, the creation of fake documents: how can we establish trust when the evidence itself can be falsified? Cybersecurity expert and co-founder of Hackers Without Borders, Clément DOMINGO – also known as SaxX – will combine insights from real-world experience, attack scenarios and live demonstrations on 2 December. His presentation will explore the impact of AI on identification systems, authentication and payments, from the perspective of both cybercriminals and the professionals responsible for securing these systems. It will offer practical guidance on the technologies and practices to prioritise in order to maintain user trust.

The Post-Quantum Era is Putting Trust Systems to the Test

On 3 September, ANSSI and its G7 partners called on public and private sector decision-makers to begin the transition to quantum-resistant cryptography immediately. Whilst it remains uncertain when computers capable of compromising current security measures will become available, preparing for them requires decisions to be taken now.

In this context, TRUSTECH will host a workshop organised in collaboration with EESTEL on 1 December from 4.30 pm to 6 pm – PAY Room – featuring presentations by Laurent CAMUS, Head of Fintech Innovation at ACPR/ Banque de France; Etienne CHEVREAU, Head of Cards at Thales; Louis-Alexis BRENAC, from Orange Cyberdefense; Christian MOUTON, founder of AEMAA and Secretary-General of EESTEL; and Arnaud CROUZET, Vice-President of Business Consulting at Consult Hyperion-Fime Group.
