Private ID infrastructures challenge government-issued IDs

The ease with which IDs are now produced creates a challenge to traditional ways of considering Identity infrastructures. Nowadays, many entities are actually creating IDs varying from a simple login / password to a complete ID infrastructure with authentication processes and digital signatures. Applications can be classified as government centric or private centric, but there is also a large grey area where different ID methods can bring solution to user and operator needs. The conference will explore applications of both government IDs and private IDs, and identify how they differ but may become a complement to each other. Both government-issued and private IDs go through a typical ID cycle management, starting with their issuance. Responsibility rules need to be clearly established in order for both systems to be able to collaborate. This combination can take different forms according to the environment: from a totally integrated government ID system such as the one in Estonia to an array of unconnected ID systems such as the one like in the US.
