About Osama BEDIER :

Over the past decade, technology has transformed the way people shopped. It was time for commerce to catch up! Osama founded Poynt on the belief that payments should be more efficient, transparent and uncomplicated for both merchants and consumers.

Applying his entrepreneurial verve to the payment terminal startup, Poynt, the POS maker he founded has gained PCI PTS, PCI DSS and EMV certification for its device. As such, The Poynt Smart Terminal accepts all types of payments from mag-stripe and EMV cards to NFC, Bluetooth and QR codes, and works with diverse types of apps—sold separately—to suit merchants’ needs. It has been developed to make sure the device will keep up with the rapidly changing payments landscape.

Bedier states

“The Poynt Smart Terminal is moving the payments story forward to a place where every player in the ecosystem benefits. We call upon banks and developers to join us in this mission to do for merchants what smartphones have done for consumers — usher in a new chapter of commerce.”

Osama Bedier is practically the granddaddy of today’s payments world. He explored point-of-sale ideas at AT&T Wireless a lifetime ago, guided a thriving e-commerce business for a PC maker called Gateway that you have to be over a certain age to remember, and became a senior product executive at PayPal  in its formative years. He also helped launch Google Wallet, the search, advertising, and mobile software behemoth’s first foray into moving money around in support of commerce on its properties.

He is a board director at WePay, PayRange and QIWI and considered one of the 10 most influential people in payments globally.
